Merry Christmas Fellow Utopians!

I hope this morning finds you all tearing the colorful paper off exactly what you wanted. However, If what you really wanted for Christmas wasn't under the tree then fear not because I have something to keep you busy.

It's been too long since I added another game to our list of clan member only steam accounts, and there is no better time to get free games then on Christmas. So to make this Christmas extra special, I bought two awesome titles that will be available to all Clan Members.

1. Batman: Arkham City

2. Portal 2



It has sometimes been said that sequels don't live up to their original, but nothing could be farther from the truth with Portal 2. I enjoyed this version of the game even more than I did the original. The single-player story has more depth and helps to move you through the game seamlessly. The addition several new physics elements such as the different gels added fresh challenges and opened up massive possibilities for 3rd party map makers. That combined with an entirely separate two player coop campaign make this more than just a sequel.

In the past we have always used Teamspeak3 more as a chat server than a voice server, but its options for text chatting are limited and many people dislike it.
Utopia has thus decided to create an IRC channel on gamesurge.net's US server, and invite all of you to come hang out and chat with us.

Server: irc.us.gamesurge.net
Channel: #utopiaClan

Here is a video showing where to get mIRC and how to connect to our server. Text instructions are also below.



1. Download an IRC client. I suggest mIRC because I won't help you with any other ones. (they should all be pretty similar though)

2. Install the program. Click continue when asked if you want to register or continue evaluating for 30 days. (I will figure something out within 30 days)

3. When the window comes up asking you to put in a nickname and other stuff just close it.

4. We need to add the gamesurge.net servers to the list of server that mIRC recognizes. Paste the following into the status window and hit enter. You really only need the US server but may as well add them all.

/server -a irc.gamesurge.net -g GameSurge -d GameSurge IRC Network
/server -a irc.au.gamesurge.net -g GameSurge -d GameSurge Australian Servers
/server -a irc.ca.gamesurge.net -g GameSurge -d GameSurge Canadian Servers
/server -a irc.eu.gamesurge.net -g GameSurge -d GameSurge European Servers
/server -a irc.us.gamesurge.net -g GameSurge -d GameSurge US Servers

5. Close and restart mIRC

6. You can now enter a nickname in the startup window and whatever other information you want. Don't close this yet.

7. Click on the "Servers" tab under the "Connect" heading in the left hand pane of that window, and expand the folder called GameSurge. Double click on "GameSurge US Servers"

8. It should have taken you back to where you put a nickname. Make sure it says "Server:GameSurge US Servers" below the email section and then click "Connect"

9. You are now in the lobby of the US server. A window probably popped up asking you to select a channel. We aren't on the drop down list so just type #utopiaClan and click join. You can also join from the lobby by typing "/join #utopiaClan"

Let me know if you have any problems. The video shows you how to do it starting with searching google for mIRC. If you can't follow that tutorial, shame on you, but ask for help anyway.

Last night Valve released a statement saying that one of their databases had been hacked and the intruders were using hacked steampowered.com forum accounts to deface the steam forums. The full statement is found below.

From the information valve is releasing, the usernames and passwords that were stolen are associated with the steampowered.com forums only. This could surely change as they continue investigating. BoO told me that the breach goes much farther than the steam forums. She says her boyfriend is part of anonymous, and they have been discussing the extent of the attack on a private forum.

At the bare minimum, you should take the following steps.

1. Change the password on all accounts that share the same password as the steam forums

2. Watch your credit card statements for unusual activity.

Help spread the word to anyone you know with a steam account.
